Preparation
A professional vehicle respray is done in a dedicated factory workshop that is free of dust and pollutants. The preparation stage of a respray job is vital to ensure a perfect end-result. Preparation includes removing any rust and repairing any dents. The car’s chrome or plastic trim is then temporarily removed for the spraying process.
Sanding and priming
The vehicle is now ready for sanding, and depending on the nature of the spray, a vehicle may be sanded back to bare metal or to the original primer. The car’s surfaces are then thoroughly cleaned to remove any residue and the areas such as windows, handles, mirrors and grilles or other areas not needing painting are completely covered. The car is then ready for painting. The first step is to apply primer to the surfaces, and allow it to cure before re-applying. All the primed areas are then sanded, and cleaned again to remove any dust and oil.
Painting and finishing
The finish paint is sprayed onto the car, and allowed to fully cure. This might take between 24 hours and up to seven days. Finally, a light sanding is applied to the finish coat, before polishing to bring out the gloss.
