Should I expect a warranty on second-hand parts?

New car parts come with a warranty guaranteeing the quality of their manufacture, but can you expect the same reassurance when purchasing a second-hand or recycled car part?

Limited warranty

Many auto parts recyclers offer a limited warranty on recycled parts or on their workmanship if they have been the ones to install the part in your vehicle. Often recycled parts come with a short-term warranty of, say, six months, and many auto parts dealers and mechanics also offer warranties for extended periods for an additional charge. Warranties are particularly important when replacing major vehicle components, as the financial investment in their purchase and installation is higher

Warranties and conditions offered will vary from dealer to dealer, so to work out the best level of guarantee for your second-hand parts purchase, research online or talk to your local auto parts recycler or mechanic.
