If I buy second hand parts, who can I get to install/fit them?

Buying second hand or recycled parts for your vehicle when it needs a major repair or following an accident can be a great way to save money and the environment. Many good quality auto parts recyclers will provide a short-term warranty on the part, and doing some research around your local parts dealers will quickly offer up a workable solution for your car parts needs.

Do-it-yourself

If you’re mechanically minded, or keen to save money, you can purchase the part from a local auto recycler or motor wrecker, or even from one of the many online stores that offer shipping direct to your door. The manufacturer’s manual is a good starting point for replacing parts yourself, and there are also online DIY instructions and make-and-model-specific ‘how to’ manuals available to step you through replacing a part yourself. This is a very cost-effective way to replace parts in your vehicle.

Use a mechanic

Of course buying a recycled car part doesn’t mean you have to replace the part yourself. Many auto parts recyclers are also fully certified mechanics who will not only source the right part for you, but also install it. If you have your own trusted local mechanic, you can ask about recycled parts options and have them locate and install the part, or get involved and source the part for them to install for you.
